Mental and Behavioral Health

Students learn best when they feel safe, supported, and connected. Our mental and behavioral health team nurtures each student’s social, emotional, and psychological well-being so they can fully engage in learning. We partner with educators, families, and community providers to build a coordinated system of care that removes barriers, fosters belonging and resilience, and supports growth. By prioritizing mental health with academics, we help students succeed in school and in life.

Our work is a cross-department collaboration that includes PK–12+ staff. School counselors, psychologists, adjustment counselors, and behavior specialists work with administrators, educators, and community partners to provide coordinated supports, including prevention and wellness programming; classroom-based social-emotional learning; short-term counseling and crisis response; behavior consultation and intervention; individualized support plans; referrals to community providers; and care coordination.

Guided by ABRSD’s core values, we keep the whole child at the center:

  • Engagement: We design responsive, engaging practices so students build skills, find their voice, and experience success.
  • Equity: We remove barriers so every student has equitable access to mental health supports, culturally responsive services, and inclusive learning environments.
  • Wellness: We partner with families to prioritize social-emotional wellness—promoting resilience, healthy relationships, and readiness to learn.

Through this integrated, districtwide approach, we strive to help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally at every grade level.
